You’ll want to sit yourself down for this one Euphoria fans, as sadly one of the series regulars will not be returning for the third season!

Barbie Ferreira, who plays Kat Hernandez announced in an Instagram story during the week that “after four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary eyed goodbye.”

“I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did,” the post continues, “and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you Katherine Hernandez.”

The news comes after rumours surfaced about the actress and creator of the show, Sam Levinson having reportedly clashed over the making of season two, but these were quickly dismissed by both Barbie and HBO.

According to the Daily Beast Report, several actors also lodged complaints with SAG-AFTRA about overly long shoots on the series and a lack of meal and bathroom breaks.

In a statement at the time, HBO said that “it’s not uncommon for drama series to have complex shoots” and noted that “there were never any formal inquiries raised.”

The second season also saw a huge cut in Barbie’s screentime, which led to Kat being largely downgraded from a main character to a supporting act with her destructive actions seemingly out-of-character and never explained or expanded upon.

Having said that, her leaving will no doubt be a huge loss with Kat’s storyline of body positivity and sexual empowerment in season one of the HBO series, making her a fan favourite.

So although, this may be the end for Kat Hernandez, Barbie herself has been keeping busy, having recently starred in the new Jordan Peele horror-thriller Nope, which follows two siblings who run a horse ranch in California that soon discover something wonderful and sinister in the skies above.

Cinema date anyone???
