This Love Actually Star’s Storyline Was Devastatingly Similar To Her Real Life

She has us weeping with this heartbreaking confession.

Love, Actually is known to be a heart-warming, festive fave to many. However, we can’t forget the devastating storyline between Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman’s characters that left our hearts aching.

A scene in the film where Emma’s character sobs in her bedroom on Christmas Eve after she discovers her husband has been cheating on her has been stuck in the minds of viewers since it’s release in 2003.

The actresses latest confession has made an upsetting scene even more sad after she stated her performance was so convincing as a result of personal experience – having her heart ‘very badly broken’ by first husband Kenneth Branagh.

The couple split after 8 years together when he began an affair with actress Helena Bonham Carter.

Speaking at a fundraiser for the Tricycle Theatre in North West London on Tuesday evening, the actress said: “That scene where my character is standing by the bed crying is so well known because it’s something everyone’s been through”

“I had my heart very badly broken by Ken. So I knew what it was like to find the necklace that wasn’t meant for me.

“Well it wasn’t exactly that, but we’ve all been through it.”

Love, Actually

Emma first commented on the affair back in 2015, saying that she had made peace with Helena Bonham Carter and the issue was “blood under the bridge”.

Bonham Carter and Branagh were said to have begun an affair in 1994 when she played his love interest in his adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.

All love is not lost, however, as Emma married actor Greg Wise whom she met on the set of Sense & Sensibility. The couple have two children together.
