TikTok Beauty: Our Tried & Tested Must-Haves

Treat yourself to some of these TikTok approved products, you can thank us later!

TikTok has indeed taken over our hearts. Is there anything better than sitting down for a five-minute scroll through in the evening and then realising it’s been three hours? Or seeing some exciting products on your FYP, liking them and then never finding the TikTok cause it’s buried in your likes somewhere. Ahhhh, what a time.

While we may not be able to help with TikTok’s addictive nature, we can be of assistance when it comes to products. Here are our tried and tested picks for the viral TikTok beauty products that you need in your life.

Silk Exfoliating Body Glove

This glove truly has taken over TikTok. Some days, it’s hard to scroll through without seeing at least one video of someone scrubbing their skin with one of these. They are touted as an environmentally friendly alternative to plastic exfoliating loofahs and gloves and are made from vegan silk. With some of our fav TikTok stars @mynameisrifah and @grace.hylandd singing the praises of this miracle product, our interests were most certainly peaked.

They’re extremely simple to use. First, damping your skin in a shower or bath for around 10 to 15 minutes, wet the glove and step out of the water, and then just scrub, scrub, scrub.

These gloves definitely get results and will leave your skin feeling silky smooth. They’re perfect for fake tan fanatics, as they can prep your skin perfectly and help remove stubborn tan. There are a few different brands you can try, but we like No.1 Illume, which you can buy here.

Juliette Has a Gun: Not a Perfume

This scent has developed a borderline cult following on TikTok. You can see countless videos of people claiming this to be the ultimate “cool-girl” fragrance, and it’s easy to see or rather to smell why.

All of their scents are light but still noticeable, nearly seeming as though it’s just your natural aroma. But Not a Perfume has a unique clean natural wood, the perfect effortless scent that’s not trying too hard or overpowering.

Everyone’s favourite fragrance, TikTok @professorperfume, even described the scent as simply “you but better.” If that ringing endorsement doesn’t convince you, we don’t know what will. While Not a Perfume has taken TikTok by storm, there are many other Juliette Has a Gun scents which are just as intoxicating, like Lipstick Fever or MMMM… All of which can be bought here.

Dressing Gown Belt (for Rope Curls)

Rope curls or bathrobe curls, as the Americanos like to say, have conquered not just TikTok but the entire internet. And obviously, how could they not. They’re effortless, and the gorgeous results speak for themselves. The best part is you probably won’t even have to buy anything as all you’ll need is the belt from your dressing gown.

The method is straightforward. First, part your damped hair, and then lay the belt across the top of your head so it hits both of your ears. Next, starting at the top of your head, take strands of your hair and put them around the rope in an over-under style motion, nearly like plaiting your hair. When you finish one side, simply fasten with a hair tie and move on to the other, then just leave to dry. It’s a good idea to do this overnight so you can just head to bed and wake up with your hair done in the morning.
For more in-depth tutorials, you can check out @_catherinejohnsonn or search the hashtags BathrobeCurls or RopeCurls in the TikTok search bar.

There are a lot of different techniques and variations, so explore and see what works for you. It’s also a good idea to use some gel or a leave-in conditioner before starting or some hairspray after, just to help give the curls some hold.

The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution

The Ordinary’s popularity has skyrocketed thanks to its viral fame. And their most famous product is undoubtedly the iconic AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution. With endorsements from the likes of @skincarebyhyram, this product has certainly gotten the TikTok stamp of approval.

This red face mask (the beauty kind, not covid style) is an exfoliator that works to unclog pores and remove dead skin cells. It can help to remove blemishes and brighten the skin while reducing fine lines and wrinkles. The product is certainly effective, but with such high percentages of acids, it’s also strong. This isn’t a problem as long as it’s used correctly.

Firstly, it’s a good idea to build up your tolerance for acids. This is easily done by just starting out with gentler exfoliators with lower percentages of acids in them. The Ordinary has a great selection of milder products to start with, such as the Lactic Acid 5% + HA. Then just work your way up.

Once your skin is familiar with acids, you can start with the AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution. It is best to start slow with this product. First, leaving it on for around three minutes and eventually building up to the ten-minute treatment time. When you start using it, remember to only do so at night and always apply sunscreen the following day (which you should be doing regardless). It is also important to never mix this with or use it in the same routine as other harsh products such as retinol.

You can purchase the AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution here.

OG Vaseline

Yes, good ol’ Vaseline has made it to TikTok. Be it in the big tubes with the blue lids or the dainty metal tins, you’ve probably owned at least one pot of Vaseline before. This iconic product is pretty much a household staple. And of course, its praises have been sung by grandmothers galore who always seemed overjoyed at Vaseline’s ability to do everything from help chapped lips to shine shoes. While it can still help with all of those, TikTok provides some more up to date uses for the product.

TikTokers, such as @caitkiernan, use it for “slugging”, which is just the term for using Petrolum Jelly to seal your skincare products at night. This can help nourish and lock moisture into the skin and has anti-ageing benefits. Simply do your regular skincare routine, and then apply a light layer of Vaseline on top.

Whether you want to amp up your shower routine, pick out a new signature scent, style your lavished locks, or treat your skin to some TLC, TikTok most certainly has a recommendation for you.
