How To Help Those Living In Gaza From Ireland
Getting aid to Palestinians is now more crucial than ever
As the conflict in Gaza and the West Bank has continued and the borders have been shut, Palestinians are now facing the devastating reality of extreme famine.
Essential medical care, supplies, and food are running out, leaving Gaza in urgent need of support.
Here in Ireland, it can feel difficult to know where to begin with helping such a complex issue in a country so far away.
However, we can do our bit, and it is more important now than ever to not look away. Here’s everything you can do from Ireland to free Palestine.
Education
The first step is learning about what has and continues to happen in Palestine. You may be aware of the conflict, but not the history, facts, or forthcoming consequences.
There are many books and articles available which will give you an in-depth understanding of the conflict however. Tuning into the news when you can is also a great way to stay in the loop.
The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine: A History of Settler Colonialism and Resistance by Rashid Khalidi gives a deeper insight into the occupation and colonialism, and is available to buy from many Irish booksellers.
Once you are up to date, you can then educate others and advocate for Palestinians in everyday conversation. It’s important that, as the situation continues, we don’t forget to keep the conversation going.
Protest
Protests are constantly happening around Ireland. They are an excellent way of bringing awareness to the situation.
Working together always means a bigger impact, and they really spark attention in local communities and nationally. It is also a great way to meet other activists and learn from them.
Boycott
Boycotting is an important way to refuse to buy goods or use services in protest of the current events. By choosing not to purchase these products or maintain commercial connections, people aim to reduce support for Israeli companies and make a statement against the ongoing situation.
You can go down a rabbit hole of boycotting on social media. We recommend checking the boycott list on the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign’s website.
They suggest that anyone who supports their cause and is concerned about the rights of Palestinians should not buy goods that originate from Israel. The full list is available here.

Engage
Engaging with pro-Palestine content on social media will really keep the conversation on people’s feeds and explore pages. It will also help you get the latest updates.

If you have a business or know a friend or family member who does, ask them if you can display campaign posters to raise awareness about the war in Gaza. Visual communication tools can be an excellent way to grab people’s attention.
Support artists who are using their work to bring justice to Palestinians. Brutto is a mural and graffiti artist from Rio, based in Dublin, whose work has been stopping the people on Grafton Street with his work.
