Timbaland has apologised for an offensive remark he made about Britney Spears last month.

In a live interview at The Kennedy Centre, Timbaland responded to an audience member’s question about Justin Timberlake’s music.

According to Variety, the person asked what Timbaland thought about the renewed focus on his Cry Me A River collaboration with Justin, thanks to Britney Spears’ new tell all memoir.

In her recently published book, The Woman In Me, Britney discusses how the music video and song for Cry Me A River vilified her, turning the media against her and smearing her character.

In the video from 2002, a Britney lookalike is seen cheating on Justin and breaking his heart – while Justin implies that Britney will get what she deserves in his lyrics.

In her book, Britney reveals that while she did cheat on Justin during their relationship, it was a kiss with her choreographer Wade Robson; meanwhile, Justin had slept with multiple women during their time together, and was reportedly known for bragging about his sexual escapades.

Responding to the question,  Timbaland joked to the audience, “She goin’ crazy, right? I wanted to call JT, ‘Man, you gotta put a muzzle on that girl.'”

Not cool, Timbaland – not cool.

Now, the music icon has shown remorse for his comments on a TikTok live.

Addressing what he said, Timbaland expressed his regret, “I apologise to the Britney fans and her.

“You have a voice. You speak what you wanna speak. Who am I to tell you what not to speak?”

He continued, “And I was wrong, you know, for saying that, but I hope you see it from – I was looking at it from a different lens, and what I am is a reconcile person. I’m not a person who takes sides.”

Timbaland went on to reply to a comment on the TikTok live that asked about his respect for women.

“And, uh, yes, you know, about respecting women, hell yeah.”

Well then…we hope Britney doesn’t have to listen to any more comments that shame her for speaking her truth!
