Tracy Beaker Is Coming Back As A Single Mum In A New Jacqueline Wilson Novel

The book, My Mum Tracy Beaker, is coming out in October.

So many of us grew up reading Jacqueline Wilson books, so it’s safe to say we were all absolutely buzzing to hear the author will be revisiting our favourite childhood character Tracy Beaker.

With 64 books under her belt, Jacqueline Wilson shot to fame 27 years ago with the story of Tracy Beaker, a troubled teenager raised in a care home.

The Tracy Beaker book series was so successful that it was eventually made into a BBC TV show starring Dani Harmer, resulting in Tracy Beaker being a name known in households across the UK and Ireland.

Now, nearly three decades later, Jacqueline Wilson is bringing our favourite character back to life – however this time, Tracy is a single mother with a challenging nine-year-old daughter of her own.

The book, titled My Mum Tracy Beaker, will be narrated from the perspective of Tracy’s daughter Jess, and will follow Tracy as she tries her best to raise a child on a low income in an expensive city and a materialistic world.

On writing the new book, author Jacqueline Wilson told The Observer:

When I realised just how long ago it was since I wrote the first Tracy Beaker book, I thought: if we were in real time, Tracy herself would be in her 30s. And I’ve always thought that, even though Tracy had lots of problems in her life and a pretty rubbish mum who was never there for her, Tracy herself would be a good mum, no matter what.

The book is due to be released in October, and our inner teenagers can’t wait!
