Vanessa Hudgens Has Opened Up About The Impact Her Leaked Nudes Had On Her Mental Health
“As an actor, you completely lose all grip of your own privacy and it’s really sad.”
Vanessa Hudgens has opened up about the negative impact the leaking of her nude pictures had on her mental health.
Vanessa shot to fame back in 2006, when she burst onto our screens as High School Musical’s sweetheart, Gabriella. But as we all know, with fame comes the surrendering of your privacy, something Vanessa sadly found out the hard way.
Back in 2007, when Vanessa was 19 she had her privacy breached when nude photographs of her were hacked and leaked online.
Now, 13 years later Vanessa has opened up about the traumatic ordeal, explaining that having your privacy breached to such an extent takes a toll on your mental health.
“It was a really traumatising thing for me. It’s really f*cked up that people feel like they are entitled enough to share something that personal with the world,” she told Cosmopolitan.
“As an actor, you completely lose all grip of your own privacy and it’s really sad.”
“It feels like that shouldn’t be the case, but unfortunately if enough people are interested, they’re going to do everything they can to get to know as much about you as they can, which is flattering, I guess, but then people take it too far and end up divulging things that should be personal.”
Continuing on she also said:
“There’s almost – I don’t want to say lack of respect because that sounds negative – but it just makes you feel like you know them even though you don’t.”
When the pictures were leaked Vanessa quickly apologised for the images, explain that the situation was ‘embarrassing’ for her.
Reflecting back on her time as a child star in High School Musical, Vanessa also said that she did, and still does go to great lengths to keep her mental health in check.
“Looking back it feels like another lifetime.” She said.
“I mean, I’m tired for sure. I take good care of myself. I know the things that matter the most – I do love my job, but my job isn’t everything. My family is – my partner and my friends are the things that keep me grounded.”
