This morning, everyone woke up to a full trailer for the exciting new flick, which stars Ariana Grande as Glinda the Good Witch, and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba.

For those of you not acquainted with the Broadway show, the story is a prequel to the iconic film, The Wizard of Oz.

Here’s the synopsis of the original musical (which is based on the book by Gregory Maguire):

Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another girl, born with emerald-green skin—smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships…until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.”

We have chills. The trailer looks very fantastical, with lots of whimsical colours and mystical outfits.

We’re hearing little snippets of the musical’s iconic score, including a soundbite from the incredible Defying Gravity right at the end.

And it’s not just Cynthia and Ariana who will be gracing our screens.

Starring in the film is Jonathan Bailey of Bridgerton, Michelle Yeoh from Everything Everywhere All At Once, Jurassic Park’s Jeff Goldblum, and of course Ariana’s boyfriend Ethan Slater, who is a big name on Broadway.

The film has been split into two parts, and this is just the first.

It’s set for release on November 27th, while the second instalment will come out in 2025.

We’re buzzing.
