What’s Going On With Nicki Minaj And Megan Thee Stallion?

It's not very pleasant...

If you haven’t been living under a rock, you’ll probably have caught wind of the biggest rap beef of the week.

Rap icons Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj are involved in a head to head rivalry right now, and things have gotten pretty intense.

But why are the two feuding, and what started it all?

Last Friday, Megan dropped her brand new single, Hiss. The catchy tune doesn’t name anyone specifically, though it’s littered with cutting lyrics that are clearly intended for whoever it is Megan had in mind!

Some fans have linked her jabs to Drake and her ex boyfriend, Pardison Fontaine.

One line in particular has also been picked up by Nicki Minaj – and whether Megan intended it for her or not, Nicki is taking it personally.

The lyric goes, “These hoes don’t be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan’s Law / I don’t really know what the problem is, but I guarantee y’all don’t want me to start.”

For those of you who aren’t aware, Megan’s Law refers to a federal law in the United States requiring law enforcement authorities to make information available to the public regarding registered sex offenders.

Many fans picked up on this as a stab at Nicki Minaj, who’s husband is affected by this legislation.

Kenneth ‘Zoo’ Petty, who has been married to Nicki since 2019, is a registered sex offender in the state of New York.

He was convicted of first-degree attempted rape, unlawful imprisonment and second degree assault in April 1995, according to NME.

And Nicki was evidently not happy with Megan, as she quickly released her own diss track in retaliation; a song called “Bigfoot” – referencing Megan’s tall frame.

Fans were surprised by Nicki’s seemingly overblown response. The song is extremely pointed, with derogatory lyrics that reference both Megan’s mother and her recent trial with fellow rapper Tory Lanez, who was convicted of shooting her in the foot.

Bad bitch, she like six foot / I call her Big Foot / The bitch fell off, I said, ‘Get up on your good foot'”.

Megan’s mother died of brain cancer in 2019, and Nicki references her frequently throughout the song.

“Swearin’ on your dead mother when you lie / This lil’ beggin’ wh*re talkin’ ’bout Megan’s Law / For a free beat, you could hit Megan raw.”

Yikes.

Megan and Nicki have collaborated in the past, for Megan’s single Hot Girl Summer.

At the time, the pair appeared on an Instagram Live together, and Megan spoke highly of Nicki on social media.

However, some believe the relationship soured when Megan collaborated with Nicki’s long time rival Cardi B, for the 2020 song WAP.

Despite Megan insisting there was no bad blood between her and Nicki on the WGCI Morning Show in November 2020, in January 2021 eagle eyed fans noticed that Nicki had quietly unfollowed her on Instagram.

So, it seems that’s where all of this began!

We hope that Nicki may be able to reflect on a diss track gone too far, and that these talented ladies can put their beef to rest for good.
