When Can We Expect To Watch Season 5 Of The Crown?

It’s close to two years since the fourth season of The Crown landed on our screens, and fans are understandably itching for the next.

The fourth season took us up to 1990, with the final episode ending on Christmas at Balmoral, where Charles and Diana are forbidden to divorce and Prince Philip offers Diana an olive branch and advice to make the marriage work, as the crown so wished.

Anticipation for the show’s return has risen exponentially since Queen Elizabeth II’s passing last week. The longest reigning monarch in Britain’s history died peacefully at her home in Balmoral last Thursday.

When will it land on Netflix?

Season five is reportedly filmed and ready to go, but the Queen’s passing has left many wondering if the show will land on Netflix on its expected release date. The show has yet to announce if it will delay its release of the fifth season, and at the time of writing it’s expected to drop on Netflix this November.

There is not yet an exact date for when the show is expected to be on screens, nor are there trailers.

What will it be about?

However, we have been treated to some BTS shots during filming, drumming up the hype for the season. In it, we can expect to see the family’s woes from the early 1990s to the late 1990s. This will focus primarily on the marital breakdown of Charles and Diana’s relationship, and also on the UK’s Prime Minister, John Major, from 1990-1997.

Is there a season six?

The show has been confirmed for a sixth season also.

Filming for season six of The Crown is currently taking place, but production was suspended last week out of respect for the Queen’s passing. Filming has since resumed in lieu, however, the show has announced that it will cease filming on the day of the Queen’s funeral, Monday the 19th of September.

There are few details about the sixth season of the show and what it will entail. However, both Prince William and Kate Middleton have been cast for the sixth season, giving us an indication of where the season will take us.
