I Found The €1.30 Lip Liner That’s A Perfect Dupe For MAC’s Soar
Save yourself some dollah to buy more beautiful things.
When Kylie Jenner’s lips started to look extra voluptuous she put it down to ‘overlining’ her lips with a combo of two MAC products: their MAC’s Soar lipliner and their Velvet Teddy lipstick. Cue all of Instagram running out to buy said products.
Of course, we now know that it’s Juvaderm fillers that are mainly responsible for Kylie’s larger-than-life pout, but that MAC duo is still a winner if you’re looking for some added lip volume.
The only issue? That liner alone will cost you a whopping €17.20, and if you’re a fan of over-lining á la Kylie, you’ll need to re-purchase again pretty quickly.
Luckily for you (and me), I stumbled upon a damn near perfect dupe at my local Penneys branch. The Essence 06 Satin Mauve liner retails at just €1.30, and not only is it a near-identical shade to Soar, it applies like a dream thanks to its creamy texture.
Of course, a dupe can only be called a dupe if its been tested side by side with the real deal, so I did just that by applying MAC’s Soar to the left side of my lips and Essence’s Satin Mauve to the right.
Can you tell the difference? I’ll tell you the difference, €16.20… and not much else.
Aside from the fact that Soar has a slight red undertone, I could barely tell the two liners apart.
To test staying power, I wore both products on my lips for a few hours and ate and drank in between. The wear-off rate was pretty similar, and overall I found that the Essence liner actually felt better on my lips as the MAC version was slightly drier.
My verdict?
Skip out on the MAC counter and snap up Essence’s Satin Mauve next time you hit up Penneys. In fact, buy two and keep a spare in your handbag because let’s face it, we’ve all lost a lip liner (or seven) on a night out. Go forth and pout my friends.
