As we come into winter and we no longer have to worry about bikini season, it’s easy to fall back into some bad habits. It’s also quite nice to stuff our faces with delicious foods or to give up that gym class as the months get colder. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of over-indulgence after a summer of fitness and health, but it’s also important to not fall off the wagon entirely. Make these decisions this weekend and stick to them. Before you know it, it will be Christmas and you won’t be worrying about how you look and feel as the festive season approaches.

1. Remove two bad things from your diet

Pick two aspects of your diet that you know aren’t great for you and decide to cut them out. Give yourself a time frame, two weeks or even a month, and avoid them entirely during this period. If you don’t want to remove something completely, why not try swap it for a healthier alternative? White bread and pasta for brown, or milk chocolate for a square of dark chocolate instead? It doesn’t have to be a drastic change but you can be guaranteed that after you get through the first week, you’ll be feeling a lot better.

2. Ditch the binging

According to The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, women who eat erratically consume more calories and burn them less quickly than those who have six regular meals a day. You should eat like clockwork, the same time every day. This includes hangover days, unfortunately. We all have different schedules so work out yours and eat your breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the same time every day. Leaving time for three snacks in between. A good way to do this is by preparing your meals in advance so you don’t find yourself starving and on the hunt for some chocolate or sweets.

3. Eat your five a day

This is the oldest trick in the book and it’s sworn by for good reason. Fruit and veg are absolutely essential for a healthy and balanced lifestyle. They are low in fat and calories and they are an excellent source of fibre which maintains a healthy gut, preventing digestive problems. You’ll also find when you’re eating your five a day, you’ll be less hungry for other quick fixes. Vary it up every day and you might discover some delicious combinations that you never even knew existed.

4. Drink water

Buy a two litre bottle of water and keep it at your desk. When you feel yourself getting peckish, go fill up your bottle and drink a pint of it instead. A lot of the time when we think that we’re hungry, it’s actually only thirst that we’re experiencing. If you find drinking that amount of water during the day difficult, make yourself a cup of boiling water and add in some lemon. Drinking this amount of water a day has unbelievable benefits for your hair, nails and skin and you’ll notice a big difference in no time.
