It’ll be a New Year’s Eve like no other. While usually around this time we’re lashing on the fake tan and preparing the sparkles for later on tonight, preparations are looking a little different today.
Choosing to stay in on NYE isn’t new to everyone, however (hello, it me) but, it is new to many people, and so, finding a way to enjoy the night while still marking the occasion is important. Whether it’s night in with your other half, housemates, or family, everyone can agree that cosying up with a blanket, food, and a good movie is a winning combination.
But, settling on which film to watch is where problems can begin to arise. Alas, never fear, because team STELLAR is here to help. Rounding up the best movies, from festive favourites to all-around classics, there’s a film for everyone to enjoy below.
New Year’s Eve
A story about different people, from different walks of life whose lives entwine when they embark on a quest to find happiness on New Year’s Eve. This star-studded flick is a real crowd pleaser with Zac Efron, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ashton Kutcher, and Halle Berry starring in it, just to name a few.
High School Musical 1
Who could forget that infamous opening scene of HSM where Troy and Gabrielle meet on NYE? So, if you’re settling down with your gal pals this New Year’s, why not revel in some nostalgia for the night? You’ll be up bopping in no time.
If musicals are your thing then buckle yourself in. ‘Rent’ is an American musical drama following the lives of a group of talented New Yorkers as they struggle with their careers, loves lives, and the AIDS epidemic of the 1990s.
Okay, so not exactly festive, but one to get you in a good mood none the less. Mamma Mia follows the story of Sophie and her family as she invites three men to her wedding, hoping to figure out which one is her father – all with the backdrop of legendary group Abba’s music.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
Is it even Christmas time if you don’t watch at least one film from the Harry Potter franchise? And what better place to start than the first one, where we first become acquainted with Harry and get sucked into the wonderful world of wizardry – it has to be better than the reality of 2020, eh?
We’re all well familiar with this story by now, but for anyone who might not be – The Holiday follows the story of two women from different countries who swap homes for the festive season, in a bid to get away from their own relationship issues. A feel good classic that’s sure to kick off 2021 in style.
A British Rom-Com, this classic sure to get you into the NYE spirit follows the story of Tim, a young man who possesses the ability to travel through time, all in the hopes of changing his past in order to better his future.
Sleepless In Seattle
I think we all need a happy ending for 2020, so why not get stuck into the absolute classic sure to give you all the feels. It tells the story of Sam, a man who is struggling to come to terms with his wife’s passing, as his eight-year-old son pushes him to find a companion, aaand we won’t spoil the rest for you.
