Healthy Mum, Healthy Baby: 5 Pregnancy-Friendly Fitness Classes To Try Out In Dublin
Exercise in pregnancy can be daunting. Here are some classes in Dublin to ease you into the swing of things.
OSLO
Oslo has become one of our favourite places as it provides all of your beauty, hair and fitness needs under the one roof. We were already massive fans of their beauty rooms and blow-dry bar so couldn’t wait to try their health studio, which didn’t disappoint. The antenatal pilates/yoga fusion class on Wednesday evening is so relaxing and the studio is lovely. It’s really chilled out and you can take things slowly which is brilliant if you’re a novice. You leave feeling unwound and nearly ready for your bed.
The Elbow Room
The Elbow Room is a gorgeous studio nestled away in Smithfield. They have a jam packed schedule full of classes from mindfulness to meditation to Zumba and every yoga class you can imagine. They even do weekend retreats (check out this one taking place next weekend for pregnant mamas). They have prenatal, postnatal and mum/baby classes so you’re guaranteed to find one no matter what stage you’re at. And they have a delightful café you can get some healthy food in afterwards. Yum.
Rebel Barre
Although the girls at Rebel Barre don’t do barre classes specifically for pregnancy, they have women attending their classes up until they’re nearly full term. There are certain movements you have to be careful with, abdominal ones for instance, but you’re otherwise good to go. They have studios on South William Street and in Ranelagh and be rest assured that you’re going to work up a serious sweat. It might look easy from the outside, but it’s not; it’s one of the most satisfyingly tough but rewarding workouts you’ll do in a long time. Trust us!
Pilates Centre Clontarf
They only have one prenatal class here a week on a Sunday but it’s well worth the wait. Plus, they’re thinking of adding another one midweek in the near future. The class is a combination of mat, reformer and chair pilates and it gives you a good run for your money. They offer some great packages and you can also try out any of their classes for €10 to get a taster and see if you like it.
Form School
Form School is the brain child of Aoife Cogan and Gordon D’arcy and they offer pilates, yoga, ballet barre and power pilates (which sounds pretty intimidating). They’re situated on Grattan Street which is just a stone’s throw away from Merrion Square and they have just started prenatal pilates on Wednesdays and Fridays at 12, which is super handy if you’re working close-by.
