Selena Gomez is slowly returning to the limelight after pulling out of her world tour three months ago to check into rehab. In a statement at the time, the singer said she was suffering from exhaustion, anxiety and depression and that she needed to take some time out to “focus on health,” and during that time it seems she’s made some real efforts to do so.

The 24-year-old says that being forced to take a step back was something of blessing in disguise, and that she’s slowly learning to put herself and her own wellbeing first. Most notably, she’s cut down on smartphone use almost completely.

“I recently took 90 days off. During that time I did not have my cellphone. It was the most refreshing, calming, rejuvenating feeling,” she tells Ariana Huffington’s wellness site Thrive Global. Even since re-entering the spotlight, Selena says she tries to avoid smartphone use as much as possible.

“Now I rarely pick up my phone, and only limited people have access to me,” she says. The singer admitted she suffered a “burn out” earlier this year before taking time off “to care for myself,” and that since then she’s learnt to find joy in “staying healthy mentally, physically [and] emotionally.”

Selena’s not the only celebrity who tries to swear off smartphone use wherever possible. Kendall Jenner also recently admitted that she regularly deletes social media apps from her phone to give herself a breather.

“Sometimes I delete Instagram or Twitter or Snapchat off my phone for a couple days,” she admitted in the October issue of Allure magazine. “I find it offensive if you’re with someone at a dinner and they’re just sitting on their phone the whole time,. I take that personally. Like, am I not interesting enough for you to talk to me? It’s so crazy because even though we talk about trying to be present, everyone wants to be in the future now.”

Wise words, ladies.
