Bad News For Friends Fans, Filming For The Reunion Special Has Been Postponed Again

They'll definitely be there for us... eventually

News that a Friends reunion show was happening set our hearts a soar back in February of this year. But, although it was the least of many of our worries, hearing that the show’s production was canceled amid the coronavirus pandemic didn’t do much to help lift our spirits.

Originally, the special episode was set to be filmed in March of this year with a live audience, but given the current circumstances, this had to be pushed back until later in the year. Speaking about the plans at the time,WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-to-Consumer chairman Bob Greenblatt said:

“We’re holding out for being able to get this special done hopefully by the end of the summer, if the stars align and hopefully we can get back into production.”

Sadly, it looks like those stars have not aligned however, and production for the reunion has again been put on halt due to the world’s ongoing battle with Coronavirus. But never fear, Jennifer Anniston is on hand to reassure us that the show is set to be great, you know, once it actually happens that is.

Speaking to Deadline after hearing getting the news that production would not be going ahead this month, Jennifer said:

“It’s going to be super. You know what? This has also given us more time to make it even more exciting and more fun than it would have been. So I choose to see it as the glass is half-full that it got postponed.”

Continuing on she added, “Look, we’re not going anywhere. You’re never going to get rid of Friends, sorry. You’re stuck with us for life guys.”

Speaking about the plan for the show, Bob Greenblatt said that he wants the show to be the best it can be, which means that we may have to wait a while before seeing it. Admitting that he doesn’t want to get the gang back together via Zoom, Bob said that having the six Friends sit down and chat in front of an audience is his vision.

“We do think there’s a value to having a big, raucous live audience to experience these six great friends coming back together and we didn’t want to just suddenly do it on a web call with, you know, six squares and people shooting from their kitchens and bedrooms.”

As of today, there is no date for when the reunion will be going ahead, so it looks like we’ll just have to play the waiting game for now.
