Did You Know The Queen From Bridgerton Is Getting Her Own Prequel?

Here's what to expect

Bridgerton's Queen Charlotte Spinoff Series: Everything to Know | PEOPLE.com

When it comes to Bridgerton fans they’re currently divided up into two camps – the ones who are savouring season 2, spacing out each episode as their lives depend on it, and the ones who have watched their way through it in less than a couple days and are now twiddling their thumbs waiting for season 3.

Which, BTW guys, season 3 likely won’t be with us for another year.

So if you’re the latter of the two camps, you might be happy to hear that Queen Charlotte, the true MVP of the show is getting her own spin-off, which could just tie us over until we get our next hit of the Ton’.

What will it entail?

Well, as you can probably guess, the prequel will follow Queen Charlotte and her rise to meteoric fame. As announced this week by Netflix, they said:

“All hail Queen Charlotte! For her next series, Lady @ShondaRhimes will chronicle Her Majesty’s rise to prominence and esteemed power in a prequel that shall witness Golda Rosheuvel reprise her role and India Amarteifio join the Ton as young Queen Charlotte.”

The streaming service has also released an official synopsis along with the announcement, which gives some more details into what the show will be about.

“(it will be) centered on Queen Charlotte’s rise to prominence and power, this Bridgerton-verse prequel tells the story of how the young Queen’s marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton”

Who will it star?

Fortunately for fans, Golda Rosheuvel will continue in her role as the Queen Charlotte we all know and love. But, as this is a prequel, stage actress India Amarteifio has been announced to play the younger version of the queen.

Oh, and Netflix has also confirmed some ‘fan favourites’ too – although they’re yet to announce exactly who that will be!

Most importantly, when will it be on screens?

The million dollar question, eh? And I wish we could come to you with a more solid answer, really I do (I’m camp binged the whole thing in 2 days btw), but sadly we don’t have an official release date yet. BUT, we do have a glimmer of hope, as the Netflix announcement included some pictures of the confirmed casting reading through the already written script – so surely that means things are very much on track.

We’re manifesting a 2022 release, do join us, will you?
