Everything We Know About Derry Girls Season Two
The trailer looks HILARIOUS.
We were absolutely #blessed by Derry Girls hitting our screens back in 2018, and now it’s officially time to get excited for season two (not like we weren’t already).
The trailer for season two of the hit show was released yesterday, and it’s all kinds of GAS.
The trailer revisits the gals (and james) who are up to their old banter. From the looks of it, they’ve discovered winged eyeliner, Take That and the dreaded adolescent male.
The trailer tells us that the new season is “coming soon”, and it actually is. The show’s creator, Lisa McGee said it’s expected to premiere in Ireland in March of this year.
“They’re talking about March, early March,” Lisa said on The Nolan Show. “See, that’s all Channel 4. That’s when I think it will be released.”
There’s also been word of a third season before the second has even dropped. Tommy Tiernan previously told Today FM: “We’re doing season three and a film, maybe. That’s all up to Lisa, the writer, going off to a shed in London and coming up with all these stories.”
In terms of storyline, writer Lisa McGee told Good Morning Ulster the series is “moving through the early stages of the Peace Process and how that impacts their lives, so it’s a bit more maybe hopeful, this series, it’s a bit more coming out of the bad times.”

Saoirse-Monica Jackson, who plays Erin, says she really thinks that the second season really outdoes the first.
“I would say there’s no second album fear,” she said. “Lisa has really outdone herself. Not to say same old, same old, but the girls are definitely in the same situation, still a disaster, still a bunch of selfish teenagers, still getting themselves into trouble and thinking they’re right at all times.”
Thankfully, all the original cast members will be returning for season two, and at least one new ICONIC cast member may be joining the show. Pop singer Nadine Coyle, who is from Derry, hinted that she may be making an appearance this season. Back in February, she told the Irish Daily Star, “I’m going to call Lisa [McGee] today actually, we’re sorting something out for the next series.”
We simply canny wait to see the gals again.
