It’s been over two years since we first got word that Saoirse Ronan would be starring in an adaptation of Amy Liptrot’s best-selling memoir, The Outrun.

But thankfully, it looks as though the film’s release date is just around the corner.

It has now been announced that Saoirse’s new film, will hit Irish cinemas on Friday 27 September – so soon!

The Outrun is based on Amy Liptrot’s recovery from addiction.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Saoirse’s character will be named Rona and the plot will follow her journey as she finishes rehab and heads to Scotland’s wild Orkney Islands for the first time in a decade.

While Rona attempts to reconnect with her childhood, she revisits the landscape in which she grew up and along the way, discovers memories that ” merge with the more recent challenging events that have set her on the path to recovery.”

Billed as “a searingly honest drama about addiction, survival, and the power of nature to restore life and renew hope” the film also stars the likes of Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You), Stephen Dillane (Alex Rider), and Saskia Reeves (Slow Horses).

Not only is Saoirse starring in The Outrun but she is also among the film’s producers.

So safe to say she’s had her hands full!

Previously speaking about the project in a statement Saoirse said: “I have been waiting to play a part like this.

“The messiness, hopefulness, dreaminess, authenticity and humour we want to achieve – I’ve been scared of it, but with Nora, I feel ready.”

We can’t wait to see this one hit the big screen!
