Everything We Know So Far About Bridgerton’s New Leading Woman Simone Ashley
Of course, we had a little Instagram creep
It feels like the longest wait, but, it’s finally over. The female lead of the second installment of Bridgerton has been announced.
Actress Simone Ashley has been cast to play eldest Bridgerton, Anthony’s love interest. As we know, the second series of the period drama will remain true to the novels, and so will be focusing on Anthony and his quest to find a woman to settle down with, as his family and culture expect of him.
Netflix has hinted at the type of character Simone will be playing, and now, we’re even more excited than before.
“Get ready to fall in love with Simone Ashley, who will play Kate in Season 2 of Bridgerton,” they said in an announcement.
“Kate is a smart, headstrong young woman who suffers no fools — Anthony Bridgerton very much included.”

So, now that we know what kind of person Simone will be portraying, let’s see what we know about her IRL.
Simone is no stranger to TV, and is probably most known for playing the role of Olivia Hanan in hit teen series Sex Education. The 25-year-old has also starred in other series such as Doctors and Broadchurch, but it’s no secret that Kate is yet to be Simone’s biggest role yet.
From a quick creep on her Instagram you can get a good insight to the kind of person Simone is, a clear animal lover and foodie, Simone is currently sitting on 276k followers, an already impressive number that is sure to inflate even more in the coming year.

What’s more than that, Simone has also spent the last year being ‘proactive’ as she told Harper’s Bazaar India last June, amid the Black Lives Matter protests “Being proactive is helping. Donate, sign petitions, protest, speak up. And hey, it’s 2020, a message to all dark-skinned desi girls, put down that fairness cream, you don’t need it,” she said.
When exactly Bridgerton 2 will be on our screens is still unclear. Production is set to get underway very shortly, this spring, but an official release date has not yet been announced, as is understandable given the uncertainty we are still currently facing.
Here’s hoping for another Christmas treat this year though!
