Favouritism? This Is The Only One Direction Star To Be Signed To Simon Cowell’s Record Label

They've always been really close.

Music mogul Simon Cowell is founder and co-owner of the Syco record label, supporting a whole range of acts from Little Mix to Miley Cyrus. And while he used to manage One Direction, only one of the five boys has been kept on the Syco label since launching their solo careers.

And who is Simon’s ‘Chosen One’? Louis Tomlinson, obvs. The 25-year-old has just signed an 18-month recording contract with his former X Factor mentor, after releasing his debut solo album six months ago.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Louis said, “I’m very happy to have signed. I’m excited to be continuing my relationship with Syco, and also working with the brilliant team at RCA in the US.

“I’ve been working really hard in the studio and can’t wait to show you what I’ve been writing.”

Louis has always been nicknamed Simon’s ‘favourite’ of the One Direction lads, and was even invited to be a guest judge at  the ‘Judges’ Houses’ section of the X Factor in 2015. The 56-year-old values Louis’ opinion, and there’s been rumours that the ex-boybander will eventually be a judge himself on the ITV talent contest.

But it wasn’t Simon’s decision not to sign the rest of One Direction to Syco, as they were the ones to seek record labels elsewhere.

In an interview with reporters on the America’s Got Talent red carpet last year, Simon said, “I hear so many things now, which they’re doing, which I’m not involved with. It’s a bit like I’m getting the hint you don’t want me to come to the party… Sorry for making you famous.”
