September is upon us once again, bringing with it an end to Brat summer and introducing us to a very mindful and demure fall – well, that’s what TikTok is telling us anyway.

In all seriousness, September can be quite a chaotic month, from sending your first child off to school, beginning a new job, going back to university, or just feeling a bit overwhelmed, it can be daunting heading into this month often monikered a mini new year.

If you are feeling a bit out of routine – the busy and unpredictable summer months are no doubt to blame, maybe it’s time to start thinking of a September reset.

You have probably heard plenty of people on social media proclaiming they are starting their September reset and maybe you are curious about what this reset entails, well, let us explain to you.

What is a September reset?

September is a time associated with new beginnings and fresh energy, but we can only wholeheartedly embrace these things if we have a clear mind, that’s where the September reset comes in. This reset isn’t about restarting those resolutions you started back in January, but instead focusing on yourself and making achievable goals for the month ahead, without the added pressure of the whole new year new me.

How we can all benefit from a September reset

September resets can help us turn a new leaf for the autumn and winter months. We can spend time working on ourselves whether that be our mental health, body, or work life which in turn can make us more content and focused.

How to start your own September reset

We have divided this list into a few categories to help guide you to your most beneficial reset this September.

Mind

When resetting, one of the most important things to consider is your mental health. Focusing on your mental health can make you feel more at ease and motivate you to achieve your goals. Here are some ways you can work on your mental health this month.

• Start meditating and take a few minutes each day to breathe and be grateful for yourself and all the good things in your life.
• Start writing down your thoughts and feelings. Journaling is scientifically proven to help improve your mental health. Spending just a few minutes writing whilst you have your morning coffee can help your brain feel less busy.
• Be creative, make a vision board of the things you would like to achieve for the month.
• Take time for self-care. Getting your nails or hair done can make you feel a million times better and boost your confidence.
• If you feel like your social life takes a hit in the busy autumn months, organise a time each week to meet friends for coffee. If you all incorporate this into your routine it will give you something to look forward to each week.
• Clear your inbox, seeing a notification for about 100 emails is definitely not helpful. spend some time deleting old emails and unsubscribing to websites etc… That no longer serves you.

September is a great time to get into a new healthy routine. From getting a gym membership, meal planning or just going out for a walk there are lots of ways to stay healthy this autumn.

• Apply for a gym membership or take part in some pay-as–you-go classes if you are new to the gym.
• Become a pilates princess. Pilates classes are huge at the moment so there are plenty of opportunities to pick up this new hobby, whether that be online or at your local pilates studio.
• FoodTok will soon be filled with hearty soups and slow cooker recommendations, this could be a great inspiration for your healthy eating and meal prep era.
• Try fitting a walk into your daily routine, whether it is 20 minutes or an hour, every step counts.

Small Goals and achievements

It is important to set yourself achievable goals rather than far-fetched goals that you will struggle to achieve. Creating small goals and achieving them will motivate you to keep going and build on them in the future.

• Clear out your wardrobe and donate clothes you no longer use to charity. This will make you feel more organised.
• Sort out your makeup and wash your brushes, a clean makeup drawer is always satisfying to see.
• Try drinking more water. Get yourself a cool water bottle that will motivate you to drink more. Your body will thank you.
• Reduce your screen time. It is easy to get stuck scrolling for hours before bed so maybe start reading or watching something on TV whilst your phone is in another room in the evenings.
• Set small goals in your job you hope to achieve for the month.
• Start reading more, joining a book club could help with this. Discussing the book as a group can be very motivating to stay up to date with your reading each week.
