Idris Elba Set To Join The Cats Film Adaption Alongside Taylor Swift And James Corden

The actor is in final negotiations to join the highly-anticipated production.

Idris Elba is reportedly set to join the film adaptation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Cats.

Tom Hooper will direct the movie which will also star Taylor Swift, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Hudson and James Corden.

Cats, one of the longest-running shows in West End and Broadway history — based on T.S. Eliot’s “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats” — world premiered at the New London Theatre in 1981.

Variety reported that the actor is in final negotiations to join the highly-anticipated production.

Idris is reportedly set to play Macavity, the ‘Napoleon of Crime’, who is essentially the villain of the piece.

The 46-year-old has previously taken on the role of a feline character, as he played in the infamous Shere Khan in the live-action version of The Jungle Book in 2016.

He is currently filming a role as the villain in the Fast and Furious spin-off film Hobbs & Shaw.

The much-anticipated Cats adaptation is to hit cinemas in December 2019.
