‘I’m Feeling Very Positive’ Vicky Phelan Begins New Cancer Treatment Trial In The US

The mother-of-two begins her trial today and we wish her the very best of luck.

Vicky Phelan is preparing to begin the new cancer treatment trial in the US today, in a bid to shrink her tumours and prolong her life.

The mum-of-two was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2014 but following the growth of new tumours, she decided to head to Maryland to undergo more extensive treatment.

Before starting, Vicky took to social media where she revealed she has mixed feelings about the big day.

“I’m a bit nervous and a bit apprehensive, but at the same time I’m anxious to get started on this new treatment. I’m feeling very positive about it.

“You never know what you’re facing into but my tumours have grown. I’ve had another scan here since September and the tumours that had grown, grew again so it was definitely time to make a move.”

As she has mentioned before, the support from people back here in Ireland and in the US is helping to keep her spirits up, and get her through this turbulent time.

“With all the wishes from home, it really makes it less lonely for me here,” she said.

“It was a very difficult thing to do, to come here on my own but I have never felt alone, not one day since I’ve been here and that’s down to all the messages I get.

“When I feel a bit low, I read a few messages and it brings me back up. The people here and the Irish community here in America have really taken me under their wing. It would warm your heart. It’s been amazing.”

As Vicky begins her new journey, we wish her the very best of luck.
