The cinema which opened in 1923, was designed by Higginbotham & Stafford and was once one of Ireland’s largest cinemas, seating over 1,200 people in absolute glitz and glamour.

Then, reopening in 2017, after been closed for 13 years, the cinema got a total facelift to transform it back to the way it once looked in the 1920s.

Restoring the original mosaic Stella tilling on the floor, as well as the velvet fabrics, decorative ceiling mouldings and little touches of the time, the Stella is now like going back hundreds of years in a time machine.

The cinema, which is currently closed due to level 5 restrictions shows a variety of new and old movies, with seats starting at €19. Every patron attending the Stella gets their own cosy armchair and footstool as well as a little table next to their seat where they can receive table service.

A menu of drinks and finger food is available to customers with drinks supplied from the Stella’s cocktail bar and finger food including the likes of buttermilk chicken tenders and tacos.

According to TimeOut, the Stella made the list for all the reasons you’d expect it to, including the Gatsby-esque interior, restored original design and hand painted ceiling.

As for the top cinema on the list, it was the Pathé Tuschinski in Amsterdam, followed in second place by The Le Grand Rex in Paris and in third place, the Village East Cinema in New York.
