Jennifer Lawrence Says The Nude Scenes In Her New Film ‘Empowered’ Her After Her Photo Hack

The actress stripped off to play a Russian spy in Red Sparrow.

Jennifer Lawrence has said that the nude scenes in her new film helped her to get back “something that was taken” from her after her naked photo hack.

The actress was one of many female celebrities whose private photos were stolen in the iCloud leaks of 2014, and previously said the incident felt like a ‘sex crime’.

Ahead of the premiere of her new film Red Sparrow, in which she plays a Russian spy, she told CBS that she had to “really think about” the scenes before she agreed to do the movie:

I couldn’t say yes and then be like,”Can we not use those scenes?” The only way to do the movie is if I’m willing to push myself as far as my character is forced to go.

Jennifer said that she found stripping off on her own terms was empowering, and like she was finally reclaiming her body after the invasion of her privacy.

I realised there’s a difference between consent and not. And I showed up for the first day and I did it. And I felt empowered. I feel like something that was taken from me I got back and am using in my art. I feel like I took power out of having my body taken from me. I felt like I took it back and I could almost own it again.

In typical J Law fashion, she had this to say to anyone who had a problem with that: “It’s my body, it’s my art, and it’s my choice. And if you don’t like boobs, don’t go see Red Sparrow.”
