Cast your mind back to 2021’s Met Gala. The most anticipated red carpet event in the celeb world leaves us refreshing Instagram over and over to see the *looks* we were all waiting for.

Then, Kim Kardashian arrives in that outfit. The full-body Balenciaga outfit that literally covered her from head to toe, and inspired thousands and thousands of utterly gas memes.

As it turns out, Kim actually ‘fought against’ wearing it, not being 100% here for covering her whole face.

Speaking in an interview with Vogue, Kim revealed that she didn’t want to wear it: “I fought against it. I was like, I don’t know how I could wear the mask. Why would I want to cover my face?

“But [Balenciaga creative director] Demna and the team were like, ‘This is a costume gala. This is not a Vanity Fair party where everyone looks beautiful. There’s a theme and you have to wear the mask. That is the look.’”

Demna also told Vogue that the mask itself was important to the whole look, saying it was “conceptually speaking, quite important”.

He explained further: “People would know instantly it was Kim because of her silhouette. They wouldn’t even need to see her face, you know? And I think that’s the whole power of her celebrity, that people wouldn’t need to see her face to know it’s her.”

I mean, that’s a fair point – we all knew it was Kim immediately so fair dues.
