As a new summer season of Love Island kicks off, the first one since Molly-Mae appeared on the show back in 2019, the Love Island star has opened up about why you won’t see her tweeting or talking about the new Islanders, or anything to do with the show for that matter.

While doing a GRWM video for her YouTube account and to promote her Beauty Works partnership, the 22-year-old also answered some pressing questions, like about her current thoughts on Love Island.

Explaining that after the show, and finding love, the Filter creator wanted to get back to doing what she did best – influencing – Molly-Mae added that she kind of wanted to remove all association attached to the show.

“Obviously the last two years I have spent so much time not necessarily removing myself, because my job was an influencer before, but I wanted to go back to what I was doing before without that brand of being a Love Islander or just being known for that,” Explained Molly-Mae.

“I definitely have spent a lot of time since I came out of the show removing myself from that stereotype and by doing that I just don’t speak about it a lot,” she continued.

Unlike former Islander and winner of 2019 season, Amber Rose Gill, who has been very vocal about the show, tweeting her thoughts throughout the new season, Molly-Mae added that she’s going to continue keeping quite on the matter, but did admit that it was hard to see new Islander Chloe Burrows receiving so much hate that her family had to get involved.

“It made me really sad to see, because I imagine my sister and my family could really relate to that and I’m surprised my family didn’t do something like that while I was in there because I was pretty bad for the hate,” she added.

When Molly-Mae was in the villa, trolls came after her online deeming her relationship with Tommy to be “fake”. Earlier this year the influencer made a TikTok video jokingly asking fans “how that was going for them,” as just this month she celebrated two years with boyfriend and Love Island co-star Tommy Fury.

Love Island returns to Virgin Media One tonight at 9pm.
