‘Pregnant Not Powerless’: Aoibhín Garrihy Responds To Critics After Climbing A Mountain At 7 Months Pregnant

And she's dead right.

Aoibhín Garrihy has responded to people giving out to her for climbing a mountain while seven months pregnant, saying she’s “pregnant not powerless”. Go girl!

The actress and former Dancing With The Stars contestant spent Sunday hiking Carrauntoohil in Co Kerry with her husband John Burke, an experienced climber who last year reached the summit of Mount Everest.

Posting a picture of herself and John at the top of the mountain, Aoibhín received some criticism from commenters who felt it was an ‘irresponsible’ and ‘silly’ thing to do so late in her pregnancy.

She replied explaining that she took her time and made safety her top priority:

As my husband is an experienced climber, safety has always been paramount for us. Everyone’s body and capabilities are different during pregnancy but on a fine day with no wind and great support I took my time and to be honest I can’t think of a nicer way to spend the day seven months pregnant! #pregnantnotpowerless

Her sister Doireann Garrihy backed her up, saying Aoibhín had told her that the climb took “three times longer than usual” and she “couldn’t have felt more comfortable”.

Other commenters also rushed to the actress’ defence, sharing stories of all the things they did while pregnant – from wallpapering the kitchen to cycling the Ring of Kerry.

“You’re pregnant, not sick or incapacitated,” said one. “Go you!”
