Official Amazon Season 3 synopsis

It’s the end of her junior year of college, and Belly’s looking forward to another summer in Cousins with her soulmate, Jeremiah. Her future seems set, until some core-shaking events bring her first love Conrad back into her life.

Now on the brink of adulthood, Belly finds herself at a crossroads and must decide which brother has her heart. Summer will never be the same…

Recap – Spoilers alert!

Season 1:

  • Enter Belly Conklin, the typical girl next door. Headstrong and boy- crazy yet relatable and loveable at the same time, Belly arrives in the small seaside town of Cousins for yet another Summer with her mom Laurel, older brother Steven and the Fisher family.
  • It’s clear that this Summer, Belly has magically had a major glow up, mainly by losing her braces and glasses – hence the show title.
  • Belly is reunited with the Fisher family – her childhood friends Conrad (who she’s had a crush on forever) and Jeremiah and her mom’s best friend Susannah.
  • Belly meets Cam, a whale enthusiast with curly hair, who she kisses at a Bonfire Party that she isn’t meant to be at.
  • The boys, led by Conrad interrupt Belly’s drive in movie date with Cam, much to her annoyance.

  • Belly decides that although Cam is a lovely guy, she can’t see herself loving him, and breaks off her summer fling.
  • Laurel invites Susannah’s husband to their annual Fourth of July party, not knowing that the pair are estranged. A fight occurs between the two best friends and Susannah reveals that her husband has been having an affair with his secretary.
  • Laurel starts dating a fellow author, Cleveland.
  • Steven gets a job at the country club and starts a summer romance with Shayla but kisses Belly’s best friend Taylor at a party.
  • Belly and Jeremiah share a kiss in the pool.
  • Belly and Jer go to the debutante ball together, but moments before the dance, Jer learns about his Mom’s cancer diagnosis, forcing Conrad to step in and dance with Belly.
  • We find out that Conrad has been weird all season because he knew all along about Susannah’s cancer and has been struggling to cope.
  • The Fisher brothers convince Susannah to get treatment.
  • Belly and Conrad kiss on the beach to Taylor Swift’s ‘This Love’ and its completely perfect.

Season 2:

  • Season 2 picks up a year after season 1 ends, with flashbacks showing us what went down over the past year.
  • Susannah has since passed away due to her cancer, leaving both the Fishers and Conklin’s struggling to deal with the grief.
  • Conrad is shutting everyone out and Jeremiah is brewing with resentment, while Belly spirals.
  • Conrad and Belly are broken up, due to Conrad being emotionally unavailable, adding to Belly’s heartbreak.
  • Belly and Jeremiah are no longer close, but when Conrad goes missing from college they reconnect to track him down.
  • Susannah’s estranged sister Julia is selling the beach house, and Conrad is trying his best to save it, and all the memories it holds of his mom.
  • Belly, Jer, Steven and Taylor join Conrad to help stop the sale of the house, throwing a crazy party and reconnecting in the process.

  • Conrad and Jer’s dad is eventually convinced to move around assets to purchase the house.
  • Her mood improves as she starts socializing again, joining the volleyball team and finding happiness in her blossoming relationship with Jeremiah.
  • After a season of heavy flirting, Steven and Taylor finally make things official.
  • In another masterpiece of a beach scene, Conrad confesses his feelings for Belly with the heart wrenching line “I thought you knew”.
  • Despite this, it’s too late and Belly chooses Jeremiah.

What to expect in season 3

Based on Jenny Han’s third and final novel in the series ‘We’ll always have Summer’, season 3 is set to be a rollercoaster of emotions. Jelly fans step back, judging by the trailer, Belly and Conrad may be rekindling their romance.

This season will feature a time jump, more than likely following the books and occurring 2 years after the events of season 2. Expect serious relationships, emotional growth, tension and hopefully more iconic beach scenes.
