via Netflix

Already binged watched all the fourth season of Emily in Pais and want more? You’re not the only one.

Just a few days after the release of season 4 part 2, Netflix announced that Emily in Paris will be returning to our screens for a fifth season. The streaming service posted a video of actress Lily Collins saying, “There’s no place like Rome!” and then sipping an espresso with the number five on the base of the cup.

After leaving viewers on a suspenseful cliffhanger in Rome, everyone is wondering what will happen next. Here’s all we know about Emily in Paris season 5 so far.

Plot – Emily in Paris Rome?

In Season 4, Emily’s boss (Sylvie), sends her to Rome to open the new Italian office branch of her marketing agency, also meaning that Emily can continue the budding romance she has with the handsome Marcello, who is living near Rome.

So, does this mean that Emily in Paris, will no longer be in Paris?

No, not exactly. In an interview with Netflix’s Tudum, show creator Darren Star revealed that while we are going to get to see Emily’s adventures in Rome, “It doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris”. Star has a desire to keep audiences guessing and “take them to unexpected places”.

This is a very exciting and unexpected turn for audiences to see Emily navigate another new city and culture.

Romance and triangles

Throughout the four seasons of the show Emily has quite a tumultuous love life. Italian fashion executive Marcello has been introduced as a new love interest for Emily and fans are loving this new character.

On the topic of Emily and Marcello’s romance, creator Star said, “I feel like they have a real spark and a real connection and a real romantic connection. A lot of that’s going to continue to play out next season”. All seems to be going well for couple, although where is the excitement in that?

The season ends on the cliffhanger of Gabriel – Emily’s ‘Will they? Won’t they?’ romance – deciding to follow Emily to Rome to confess the feelings he still has for her. Fans are having mixed feelings towards the idea of Emily and Gabriel continuing their very messy relationship and it’s already causing a lot of discourse online.

Will Emily fall into the temptation of ‘what could have been’ with Gabriel or will she finally move on with Marcello?

We had the opportunity to talk to Lucas Bravo, who plays Gabriel, about how he feels about Emily and Gabriel ending up together.

He said: “If he [Gabriel] wants Emily let’s give him Emily! If she wants him, let’s give her Gabriel!” The actor went on to say that no one will know who Emily ends up with not until the “last minute of the last episode of the last season”.

Cast and characters

There have been no cast confirmations yet but it is expected that all of the show’s main cast will be returning – Lily Collins (Emily), Eugenio Franceschini (Marcello), Philippine Leroy Beaulieu (Sylvie Grateau), Ashley Park (Mindy Chen), Lucas Bravo (Gabriel), Camille Razat (Camille), and Lucien Laviscount (Alfie).

However, there has been some speculation that Sex And The City’s very own Kim Cattrall could be making a cameo in the upcoming season. In an interview with IMDb actor Lucas admitted that the cast have been “manifesting” for the Sex And The City star to appear on the show.

Lily also admitted to loving the idea of an Emily In Paris and Sex And The City crossover saying, “Naturally I feel like there’s a lot of crossover there” due to both shows following narratives to do with friendships, relationships and of course being known for their fashion.

Release date?

There is no exact release date for season 5 yet, however, shooting is scheduled for mid 2025.

Fingers crossed the wait won’t be too long!
