The Legally Blonde Prequel Is Coming, & They’re Looking For Young Elle

Reece Witherspoon announces the open casting for the Legally Blonde prequel series, Elle.

In a Reel on her Instagram page, the iconic Elle Woods actress clad in a mauve pink ensemble said, “Our search for the high school version of Elle Woods is officially on”.

She mentioned how her production company Hello Sunshine has teamed up with Prime Video to bring this much-anticipated prequel to our screens. “We’re making the casting process totally OPEN, so you can submit your auditions at the link in my bio” she adds.

She concludes the statement by saying “I’m SO excited to see all your fabulous takes on everyone’s favourite Gemini vegetarian”.

Witherspoon herself will be the show’s executive producer along with Laura Kitrell (who wrote the show), Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky and Marc Platt.

This prequel will give us some insight into our favourite blonde barrister’s formative high school years before she became president of UCLA’s Delta NU Sorority and later top in her class Harvard Law School graduate.

The application page for the open casting describes high school Elle as a “natural-born leader who will always stop to straighten another woman’s crown”. It also gives a brief synopsis of Elle’s role, saying, “Coming of age in the 90s, Elle will encounter her first love and her first heartbreak, and she will find her moral convictions”.

It is prima facie that we are going to be seeing lots of 90s fashion and nostalgia in the upcoming prequel.

The original Legally Blonde was a box office smash hit which led to the sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde. The sequel saw Woods using her law degree to campaign for animal rights after her iconic Chihuahua’s mother is traced back to an animal makeup testing facility.

A third installment to the franchise which was confirmed back in 2018 is also in the works. It is confirmed that Reece Witherspoon will be reprising her role as the beloved Elle Woods. In an interview with Access Hollywood in 2021, Mindy Kaling who is co-writing the threequel along with Dan Goor (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) explained how they will be portraying Woods as a 40-year-old woman.

Videos must be submitted by October 25th so that gives applicants just under a month to perfect their bend and snap!

Filming will begin in Vancouver from April – July 2025 and all applicants must be over 18 years of age.

Applicants are also given in-depth guidelines on how to film the audition tape. We can’t wait to see the teenage version of pop culture’s most iconic blonde.
