The Very Important Reason You Should Never Workout With Your Smartphone

If you're guilty of cosying your smartphone in beside your boobs or even in your pocket, you might want to read on.

Smartphone in pocket

Smartphones. We struggle to be without them, taking them everywhere, whether that be a five-second jaunt into the room next door or a trip to the toilet, and they come in especially handy when we wanna blast some tunes when we’re getting our sweat on down the gym.

But if, like us, you’re occasionally guilty of shoving your iPhone or Android into the confines of your pocket – or worse, squeezing it in next to your your boobs when working out, we’ve got news for you; experts are warning that this one little habit could be seriously detrimental to your health.

According to US-based scinetist Dr Devra Davis too much exposure to your smartphone can have major health reprecussions.

“The pattern of putting cellphones in the bra, and now there’s a new device where you can actually have the phone strapped to your head, made me concerned about what we know about exposure to phones,” she explains.

Dr Davis went on to cite a medical case where a woman had developed a tumour on her breast in a similar shape to her phone.

While evidence to support the link between smartphones and cancer is inconsistent, many studies suggest that they emit radiofrequency energy AKA radiation, which can then be absorbed by the tissues nearest to where the phone is being held.

Our advice? Your boobs shouldn’t be used for phone storage. Stick that smartphone in your gym locker instead, girl. And if you really can’t be without it? Shop a smartphone arm band which will to help limit your phone’s skin contact or opt for an MP3 player.
