This Is When Line Of Duty Will Be Back On Our Screens

Plus everything we know so far

The BBC has confirmed that season 6 of Line Of Duty will be back on our screens in March 2021.

When exactly that will be in March, we still don’t know yet as a date hasn’t been given, but it’s good news regardless, as many fans feared that the show would be pushed until 2022 amid the pandemic.

Although it will be back on our screens a little sooner than anticipated, it has still been a long wait for fans, as season 5 of the show dropped back in March of this year, meaning there has been a whole year between seasons.

To refresh your memory, in season 5, focus was put on the identity of ‘H’ – a corrupt member of the police force, with the final episode revealing that there are in fact not just one, but four corrupt members of the force, something we’re guessing that season 6 will investigate.

Production began filming again in September, after it had been shut down earlier in the year due to coronavirus. Announcing the filming news on social media back in September, Creator Jed Mercurio sent fans into a frenzy over on Twitter, as he captioned a BTS picture:

“When I took this photo I was careful to keep the inmate opposite โฆ@martin_compston hidden but you can just about see an out-of-focus image on the camera monitor. Clue: itโ€™s not Julia Montague.”

While we have no clue who the inamte on the monitor is, we do know that big characters Ted Hastings, Steve Arnott and Kate Flemming – played by Adrian Dunbar, Martin Compston and Vicky McClure will all be returning to season 6, along with a few added extras too.

One added extra who we are aware of, is Kelly MacDonald, who will be playing the role of Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson.

But, Vicky McClure has recently said to Red magazine that it’s always best to expect the unexpected when it comes to the series, as even she herself never knows what creator Jed Mercurio will do next.

“I’m just not Jed, I don’t have that skill in my brain to conjure up where we could go next. He’s an extremely creative writing genius. He just is. Nobody else writes quite likes Jed with that kind of detail and finesse.

“So I would never be able to predict because I’ve never been able to predict before. Every series I’m picking up the script thinking, ‘I didn’t see that coming..”

So, now that we know everything that we possibly can, looks like all we have to do now is wait for March to come – easy.
