Thunder-Snow?! Ireland Is Set For Some Horrifically Bad Winter Weather Tomorrow

As if a normal snowstorm wasn't bad enough.

Grab the raincoats, jumpers, hats, scarves, gloves, boots. Grab it all, because tomorrow’s weather isn’t going to be pretty.

After a weekend of disastrous weather in parts of mainland Europe, including the first snowfall on record in years in the Greek islands, Ireland is next up.

Met Éireann are forecasting “hail, sleet and snow” in Ulster, Connacht and north Leinster, with “rain and sleet” in parts of Munster overnight. There’s also a Status Orange warning in place for  Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo, with “blizzards and drifting” en route.

The most terrifying forecast of all, however, is for “thunder-snow,” which is expected in Connacht and West Ulster tonight. If you haven’t experienced thunder-snow before, count yourself lucky: in essence it’s a thunderstorm where snow falls instead of rain. Nice, huh?

Don’t go cancelling your Wednesday evening plans just yet though, as the main bulk of the unsettled wintry conditions won’t be kicking off until around 3am, according to a Met Éireann official who spoke to Independent.ie.

Get those electric blankets on, people…
