We Just Learned Something Seriously Gross About The Gym And It’s Really Making Us Reconsider Our Next Workout

All of the gross.

Woman at the gym

If we’re being completely honest, most mornings we struggle to make it the gym and the mere thought of dragging ourselves out of bed to get our sweat on before it’s even light out makes us cling even tighter to the duvet. (Hey, no judgement, it’s warm in there!)

Now we might have another excuse valid reason to stay in bed. Why so? Well we just learned something pretty nasty about the gym and it kinda makes us want to stay at home.

Are you ready? Here it is:

Free weights – yep, those dumbbells you probably make skin contact with on a regular basis – have 362 times more bacteria than a toilet seat.

The discovery was made in a recent experiment by FitRated.com which examined bacterial samples from 27 pieces of gym equipment.

But the free weights section isn’t the only grubby area of the gym; there’s bad news for cardio bunnies too as the exercise bike was found to have 39 times more bacteria than a cafeteria tray and a treadmill 79 times more bacteria than a water faucet

Pretty gross, right? We’re packing anti-bac wipes and wiping down all the gym equipment before we use it… y’know, if we actually make it to the gym in the first place.
