Goodbye, love interests!

Wednesday season 2 will be a gruesome and romance-free frenzy.

In an interview with Variety, Jenna Ortega has revealed that season 2 of the gothic fantasy Netflix show will put a greater emphasis on horror. “We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more,” the titular actress explained.

To make room for more monsters, gore and unsettling characters the teenage character’s love life has been put to the side.

“We’re ditching any romantic love interest, which is really great. We’re going to get bolder, more dark” the actress said.

Jenna has spoken before about how she disagreed with the major romantic plotlines in season 1 saying that the love triangle “made no sense” for her character.

After expanding her role as executive producer and lead actress Jenna is diving right into the heart of the creative process and ensuring that her vision for the iconic character comes to life. Jenna has explained that since she was so heavily involved in the production side of the show’s first season, her move to executive producer was a “natural progression”.

“And with a character like Wednesday, who is so beloved and such a legend, I just really didn’t want to get her wrong. So I try to have as many conversations as possible. On set, with the writers and Tim [Burton], we all would get together and decide, ‘Okay, what works and what doesn’t?’ It was naturally already very collaborative.”

There is no exact release date for season 2 of the Addams Family spin-off, but there have been rumors that we could be seeing our favourite goth girl on screens again by the end of this year.
