Does Using Nivea Men’s Post-Shave Balm As A Primer ACTUALLY Work? We put it to the test…

It's been beauty blogger-approved and costs only €6.79. Naturally, we had to give it a try.

Nivea Post Shave Balm

It’s the foundation-enhancing application step you should never miss, but if you’ve been forking out a fortune on your everyday primer, you may have been missing a trick because according to top beauty bloggers, the secret to setting your make-up is using a product you’re most likely to find in your boyfriend’s cabinet; shave balm, or more specifically Nivea Men’s Post Shave Balm.

According to bloggers like Nikkie Tutorials, the high glycerine content in the balm leaves a tacky finish, essential for giving your make-up long-lasting staying power.

At only €6.79, a fraction of the cost of our usual primer, we wondered if it was too good to be true. Could it really mimic the effects of our fave-o skin primer?

Beauty enthusiast and STELLAR social media whizz Ciara put it to the test.

Here’s what she thought.

“I normally use Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, €33, so when I heard that Nivea Post-Shave Balm could do the same job for a fraction of the cost, I ran out and bought myself a bottle.

“The first thing you’ll notice about this product, is that it looks like a guy’s product. I’m pretty particularly about packaging so I took off the white and navy label to reveal a white glass bottle, which made a nice addition to my make-up bag.

“When you first use the balm, it’s quite watery so it spreads really easily on to the skin. A little goes a long way too. Once applied, the lightweight formula feels tacky on the skin.

“My verdict? It 100% gave my make-up the same staying power as my regular primer, both keeping oil at bay and ensuring my foundation didn’t wear off during the day. Sold.”
