So Unique! Apparently All Blue-Eyed People Have *This* In Common

And we share a bunch of other stuff too.

How often do you think about your genetic make-up? Chances are not very often, but things like our eye colour, whether or not when can roll our tongue and the natural shade of our hair, are all things that make up who we are.

Now get this for a fun fact: If you’re the owner of blue eyes, it’s all down to a genetic mutation that dates back 10,000 years. Before then, there was only one eye colour: brown.

“Originally, we all had brown eyes,” Professor Hans Eiberg from the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine explains to Women’s Health. “But a genetic mutation affecting the OCA2 gene in our chromosomes resulted in the creation of a “switch,” which literally “turned off” the ability to produce brown eyes.”

What’s more, that means that all people with blue eyes are descendant from a single person.”From this we can conclude that all blue-eyed individuals are linked to the same ancestor,” Eiberg explains. “They have all inherited the same switch at exactly the same spot in their DNA.”

And as for personality? Well according to a study published in Current Biology, blue-eyed folks are generally “egocentric, competitive and sceptical”. So there you have it.
