“She Started It”: Katy Perry Finally Addressed Her Feud With Taylor Swift During Carpool Karaoke

And it's a different version of events than we'd expected.

Katy Perry joined James Corden for a bit of Carpool Karaoke this week and opened up about her ongoing feud with Taylor Swift.

The pop stars haven’t spoken since 2013, and while we knew the fight began over an argument about backing dancers, the exact details of their tiff hasn’t been made public until now.

Sitting in the driver’s seat, James tentatively asked the Dark Horse singer about her beef with Taylor, to which Katy replied, “There’s a situation. Honestly, she started it and it’s time for her to finish it.”

“This is what happened. It’s about backing dancers, it’s so crazy. So there’s like three backing dancers that went on tour with her, and they asked me before they went on tour if they could go. And I was like ‘yeah, of course! I’m not on a record cycle, get the work, and she’s great – but I will be on a record cycle in about a year, so be sure to put a 30-day contingency in your contract so you can get out if you want to join me when I’m going back on.’

“So that year came up, and I texted all of them because I’m very close with them and I said ‘FYI, I’m about to start, and I wanna put the word out there.’ And they said, ‘Okay, well we’re gonna go and talk to management about it.'”

“And they did, and they got fired.”

Katy continued, “I tried to talk to her about it and she wouldn’t speak to me.” Taylor went on to write Bad Blood, a track about how she and Katy are no longer friends, and Katy explained to James, “I do the right thing any time that it feels like a fumble. It was a full shutdown and then she writes a song about me, and I’m like, ‘OK, cool, cool, cool, that’s how you want to deal with it?’ Karma!”

Katy’s new song Swish Swish was released in retaliation to Bad Blood, in which she sings about Taylor being a “sheep” who should “retire”.

But despite all of the drama, the 32-year-old revealed to James that she’d like to put this negativity behind her. “What I want to say is that I’m ready for that BS to be done,” she said. “Now, there is the law of cause and effect. You do something, there’s going to be a reaction, and trust me daddy, there’s going to be a reaction. It’s all about karma, right?

“I think personally that women together, not divided, and none of this petty bullsh*t, women together will heal the world.”

And in an attempt to put an end to the singers’ feud, James asked, “Would it be enough to receive a text from Taylor Swift that said the beef is off the grill?”

To which Katy replied, “Yes 100 percent.”

Sounds like the ball’s in your court now, Taylor.
