Britney Spears’ life is about to be told on the big screen, and the excitement is already building. A major studio has secured the rights to adapt her bestselling memoir, The Woman in Me, marking what could be one of the most talked about biopics in recent years.

With a high profile creative team behind the project and a deal that includes her vast music catalog, this film is set to take audiences through the highs, lows, and defining moments of Spears’ legendary career. While details remain under wraps, one question still remains. How will Britney’s story be told, and who will step into the shoes of the pop icon herself? Let’s see how much we can find out.

From what we know, Universal Pictures won the rights to Britney Spears’ 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, which quickly became a bestseller and flew off shelves worldwide. The book deep dives into Britney’s journey from her early days as a child star to becoming a pop icon, all while navigating the chaos of fame.

It also doesn’t shy away from her personal struggles, especially her unfortunate time under the 13 year long conservatorship that controlled much of her life. Family drama, relationships, and untold stories come to light in this account, offering fans a glimpse into what Britney’s life really looked like behind headlines. Now, with the biopic in the works, we’re all waiting to see how these moments unfold on the big screen.

We are very happy to say that the director of Crazy Rich Asians and Wicked, Jon M. Chu has been announced as director of this biopic. Chu has expressed his deep admiration for Spears and has very directly emphasized that she will be involved in shaping the film.

However, development of the biopic is still in its very early stages, and no script has been written yet. Producing the biopic we will see Marc Platt who previously worked with Chu on Wicked and also produced La La Land. Britney excitedly shared this news with fans on her X account in August 2024.

While nothing has come out on who will be playing the pop icon herself, fans have speculated on who could be cast with names such as Addison Rae, Tate McRae, and Sydney Sweeney circulating.

At a recent Entertainment Tonight event, Millie Bobby Brown stated she would love to play Britney in the upcoming biopic saying, “Nothing would make me happier than being able to play such an iconic, beautiful person. I leave that to the Gods.”

Talking to Access Hollywood, Millie says how Britney is an icon and how she would love nothing more than to be a part of her story, when asked about her drastic change to blonde hair.

Unfortunately, there’s still no word on a release date yet, especially since the project is in the very early stages and no writer has been locked in. So, it’s safe to say it won’t hit the big screen until at least 2026, or even maybe beyond. But hey, don’t worry! We’ll keep our eyes peeled and you can trust us to be the first to let you know as soon as any updates drop.
