Hang On, Could Irish Actor Alisha Weir Play Dorothy In Wicked 2?
Please yes
If you’re like us, you’ll be well obsessed with the new musical movie adaptation of Wicked.
Sadly, we now have to wait another year until Wicked: Part Two is released in theatres.
However, since its release, rumours have been swirling about who could possibly be playing the role of Dorothy.
And as it turns out, our very own Alisha Weir is now tipped to play the iconic character.
Fans of the stage show will know that Dorothy does make a brief appearance in the show however just as a silhouette.
This leaves the question, of whether or not the role of Dorothy will be fleshed out in the movie.
During a recent chat with Variety, director John Chu addressed the pressing Dorothy question.
“I won’t say whether she’s a character, necessarily, in movie two,” he said. “There’s a part of me that wants everyone’s Dorothy to be the whatever Dorothy they want. And yet, there is interaction and some crossover. So I’ll leave that up to Part Two.”
Sounds like he’s hiding something to us.
This leads us to the Alisha theory. Fans have been quick to spot the actress attending several events and screenings of Wicked: Part One, despite not appearing in the movie.
Also, from the still of the lineup of Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, Fiyero and of course, Dorothy shown in the trailers, Dorothy does appear to be quite small and fit a similar build to Alisha Weir.
Another thing to consider is that Universal, the movie studio behind Wicked, already has a strong liking for Alisha after working with her on the movie Abigail.
Plus, with her history of musical theatre and appearing in Netflix and Sony’s Matilda The Musical she really would be quite a fitting choice.
You see what we’re saying here?
Looks like we’re just going to have to wait and see!
