So You Haven’t Got Model Proportions? Here’s How To Dress For Holidays Anyway

We're struggling with our pre-holiday diet, so any of our holiday wardrobe decisions are revolving around comfort and figure-flattery!

Going on holidays any time soon? We’ve got a serious goo on us for sunnier climes (and while I personally will be jetting off in a matter of hours), sometimes a bit of holiday window shopping is all you need to scratch that summertime itch.

With that in mind, we’ve compiled a handy pile of holiday must haves to get you to the beach in style – and as I’m not yet at Slimming World target (or even remotely close), everything will be suitable for those of us with a little bit of a belly and a love of foreign / any food.

Asos bodycon dress

This bodycon dress from Asos is utterly gorgeous – and we know this for a fact, as it arrived this morning. It’s tight, yes, but the chevron pattern distracts from any lumps and bumps, and it may look super short but it’s so stretchy that it ends up at a totally beach-appropriate length. We’ll be pairing ours with…

Carvela Brea flat sandsl

These super-cute flat jewelled sandals by Carvela at House of Fraser. We like our holiday dressing super-simple and comfortable, so flats are an absolute must. Bonus points if they’ll get you from beach to bar, and super extra bonus points if you can ram them in your hand luggage after a particularly lucrative trip to Spanish Zara.

Christophe Sauvat top

We’re seriously digging Christophe Sauvat, the hip folksy-style designer whose cool, loose separates just beg to be worn in some kind of riviera. This adorable T-shirt would look so gorgeous with a pair of cut-off shorts or a maxi skirt for the ultimate in ’70s folk vibes.

Warehouse shorts

These super-slick tropical-print Warehouse shorts will be indispensable for exploring foreign towns, and lounging around the Sunday markets – not to mention protecting against chub rub. If you’ve never heard of chub rub, you’re a luckier lady than I – it’s what happens when your thighs rub together and, with the aid of heat and the ensuing sweat, result in an unsightly, not to mention painful, rash. Ouch.

K Amato multi bead necklace

Holidays are, above all else, a time to dress up with a little more colour than you’d usually wear – which is why this multicoloured beaded necklace by K. Amato (€77.44) will be so perfect, for pairing with bikinis and kimonos; little black dresses at night-time; a simple white shirt and cut-off denims for exploring… the list is endless.

Mara Hoffman cutout swimsuit

At €217.54, this Mara Hoffman swimsuit isn’t very high up our “to buy” list, but it’s mos def on our summer wish list. (And yep, we posted about it before – Mindy Kaling is a huge fan!)

River Island cross-over dress

We’d go nowhere without a beach cover-up – and no, we’re not talking about a see-through onesie (sorry, but no one needs to see me eating lunch in that). This cross-over dress by River Island is a cool €33.84 and would be perfect for throwing on over yer togs.

Clover Canyon scribble scarf bikini

Speaking of which, in the interest of throwing those pesky body issues to the wind, I’ll be wearing a bikini for my whole holiday – this Clover Canyon number (€90.91 – and 88.24 for bottoms) may not be cheap but the quirky detail will distract from any wobbly bits.
