Miley Cyrus isn’t bothered by the small amount of backlash she received over her Sinéad O’Connor tribute at the SNL 50th concert on Sunday – and nor should she be.

Yes, there was a mixed reaction among viewers after the singer took to the stage to cover the late Irish singer’s version of the Prince song Nothing Compares 2 U.

The controversy over the performance comes following the the two singers’ apparent previous feud – and Sinéad’s previous banning from the US show.

While some thought the tribute was touching, others labelled it inappropriate due to the fact that Sinéad was banned from SNL after she ripped up a photo of the Pope on air in a bid to protest child sexual abuse that occurred in the Catholic church.

Despite the mixed reviews, Miley apparently has no regrets.

According to DailyMail.com an insider revealed that it was Miley’s “idea to sing the song and that she knew “going into it that it would cause some people to get offended.”

“It was absolutely Miley’s idea to sing Nothing Compares 2 U and she believes she killed it,” said the source.

“She is aware of the backlash and she knew going into this that it would cause some people to get offended.

“It is actually quite comical to her.”

Miley was accompanied by acclaimed singer and guitarist Brittany Howard as she sang the song.

She notably did not say anything about Sinéad, whose cover of the Prince track became a worldwide hit in 1990.
