2023 is coming to an end.

The year is over, and with it, many relationships too.

If your love life fell apart in 2023, don’t feel bad about it. Because celebrities are just like us and they have had a fairly rough time of it too.

Marriages broke down, couples split, and situationships became, well, regular old situations again – and hopefully, everyone emerged out the other side a better, stronger, more well adapted person.

Here are all of the celeb couples who called it quits this year. There truly is something in the water (growth).

Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez

Before there was Ethan Slater (Spongebob) there was Dalton Gomez, and he was married to Ariana Grande.

Rumours of the pair’s split were abound when Ariana was spotted without her wedding ring at Wimbledon. She later began dating Ethan while filming the upcoming Wicked film adaptation.

Hugh Jackman and Deborra Lee Furness

Back in September, The Greatest Showman called it quits after 27 years of marriage.

“We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,” read their statement.

“Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth. Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.”

Cardi B and Offset

A late contender for this list, as Cardi only confirmed that she was single a few days ago. 

Taking to Instagram Live, she said: “I have been single for a minute now.” She and Offset married in 2017, and share two children together.

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn

Things hadn’t been going well. Joe didn’t like the spotlight. Taylor had gotten too famous for him. He was not famous enough for Taylor. They had actually split years ago (?!?).

Whatever rumour you believe, one thing remains certain: these two split this year, and the Swifties were sad.

Taylor Swift and Matty Healy

Listen, that was a significant relationship, okay?

There were pictures. There were videos. It was all very shocking, and it thankfully ended after a few weeks.

Jeremy Allen White and Addison Timlin

You know those pap photos of Jeremy Allen White doing press ups in the glistening sun? Well, he was going through a breakup at the time.

The Bear star and actor Addison Timlin split earlier this year, eventually filing for divorce. Jeremy has since been seen hanging out with Rosalia.

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner

In news that surprised just about everyone, Joe Jonas filed for divorce from Sophie Turner in September.

Sophie has since been linked to British aristocrat Peregrine Pearson.

Earlier this year, this Euphoria romance ended as actor Dominic said that he was “done being in relationships.”

He later said that he didn’t think shooting Euphoria season three with his ex would be awkward: “I think it’ll be fine. We’re all adults, kind of. I’m trying.”

Meryl Streep and Don Gummer

In a fairly surprising twist of events, Meryl Streep and her husband Don have apparently been separated for six years!

A spokesperson for the Mamma Mia! star told Page Six back in October: “Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart.”

Good for them.

Bebe Rexha and Keyan Safyari

After dating for three years, singer and rapper Bebe split from Keyan after he made comments about her weight via text message.

The star announced the split on stage in London, saying: “I am going to be at Heaven tonight partying and looking for a new boyfriend.

“I don’t know why I would look for a new boyfriend in a gay club but you know — fluid?”

This one stung, but life must go on…

Jodie Turner Smith and Joshua Jackson split this year, with TMZ reporting that Jodie filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences.”

The model and actor is reportedly seeking joint custody of their daughter.

Britney Spears and Sam Asghari

Not long after being freed from her conservatorship, Britney and boyfriend Sam Asghari decided to tie the knot.

A little over a year later, the couple separated, and Asghari filed for divorce. According to TMZ, the pair had a “nuclear argument” involving cheating allegations.

A split for the ages as Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello announced their separation after seven years of marriage.

“We have made the difficult decision to divorce,” they told Page Six.

“As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”

Adam Smith and Billy Porter

After six years of marriage and over a decade of on and off romance, actor Billy Porter and designer Adam Smith announced their split this summer.

Their rep said: “They continue to love and support each other as they embark on this next chapter. There will be no further comment from either parties and it would be appreciated if their privacy be respected.”

Billie Eilish and Jesse Rutherford

After years of being a fan of Rutherford’s band in her childhood, Billie began dating the Neighbourhood singer in 2022.

They split after around eight months of dating.

Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth

After 12 years of marriage, Reese and Jim called it quits in March.

“It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” they said on Instagram.

“We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have created together.”
